FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                                                                   April 6, 2026

                                                                                                                             POWER OUTAGE UPDATE

GERING – City of Gering Officials would like to inform citizens that the power outage that occurred on April 6 was due to Gering currently sharing a breaker with Roosevelt and Gering Valley Power Districts. The fault occurred on another power district’s 34.5 transmission line which supplies power to four of Gering’s eight substations. This subsequently affected Gering and caused Gering to lose four substations.  The power district in which the fault occurred is in the process of repairing their 34.5 line.  In the meantime, Gering’s power is back on.  For the time being, all eight substations in Gering will run on one circuit until May 15, 2026.  If a fault occurs in Gering, Roosevelt or Gering Valley, it will affect all eight substations in Gering which will result in a loss of power to the City.

The City of Gering typically operates on its own two breakers from WAPA (Western Area Power Administration).  Until May 15, 2026, the City will be operating on one breaker from WAPA.  If there is an issue on any one of the three power districts sharing the same breaker, the entire City of Gering will experience a blink or loss of power until the problem is resolved.

City officials request everyone’s patience and cooperation as this issue is being worked through.

Thank you.
