ELECTRIC POWER UPDATE – CITY OF GERING REQUESTS ASSISTANCE AND COOPERATION FROM RESIDENTS

GERING – City of Gering Officials would like to update citizens regarding power issues that stem from the April 6th power outage that resulted in Gering sharing a breaker with Roosevelt and Gering Valley Power Districts.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026 some residents experienced a power outage due to the overloading of some circuits, which is a continuation of the initial issue that occurred on April 6.

Gering officials would like all residents to be aware that beginning on Monday, April 27, 2026 through Friday, May 8, 2026, Gering will be transferring all electric power load from two of WAPA’s breakers to one breaker.  Gering will not have any way to feed the main substation (on U Street) from WAPA’s transmission line during that 11-day period and will have to move loads from the Gering main substation to three other Gering substations. Unfortunately, this could overload some circuits that may result in outages in some areas of Gering.  All Gering residents should expect and prepare for intermittent power outages.

Gering officials are requesting that Gering residents assist the current circumstances by reducing some of the load on Gering’s power system by keeping home and office air conditioning units to 71 degrees or higher for the 11-day period of April 27 through May 8.  This will greatly help in reducing power outages during this time period!   Additionally, please avoid using clothes dryers and dishwashers between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  Finally, turn off and unplug televisions, computers, phone chargers, and gaming systems when not in use.

City of Gering Electric Department personnel will be on standby for any outages that may occur and will respond as quickly as possible.

City officials appreciate everyone’s cooperation, assistance, and patience as Gering works with WAPA to mitigate the current power upgrades and power system issues.

Thank you.
