Being Mortal by Atul Gawande

Being Mortal by Atul Gawande

Are you old? Are you going to be old? Are you responsible for someone who is old? "Being Mortal" by Atul Gawande is about the many varieties of advancing age and presents some thoughtful suggestions for dealing with changing circumstances, going through independence, assistance, and letting go, (these are chapter headings). One chapter deals with hard conversations-the ones about end of life issues before these issues are at the end of life. Dr. Gawande uses many examples of cases has observed.

“Being Mortal” is very readable and perhaps should be read by family members together in order to discuss end of life issues. You write a will so you have a say in how your estate will be distributed-in the future. Discussions of aging can be less painful if they are held in advance of the immediate need. "Being Mortal" can support the framework of the discussion. No- the book isn't depressing, it's thoughtful.
