Using the Library

Applying for a Card

You can register for a new library card by filling out an application form. Identification is required. Children under the age of sixteen must have a parent or guardian signature. Replacement cards can be issued if your library card is lost. There is a $2.00 fee for a replacement card.

Checkouts

The majority of materials within the library's collection may be borrowed for two weeks.  One week loan periods have been established for magazines and videos.

Fine Free

Gering Library doesn't charge overdue fines. If your item is more than 14 days overdue, your account will be blocked. You may renew by telephone, text, email, or online. Materials may be renewed twice if no one is on hold for the item. You are still responsible for damaged and lost items.

Donation Guidelines

The library welcomes gifts of books and other materials with the understanding that the Library Director will evaluate them in accordance with the criteria applied to purchased materials. No conditions may be imposed relating to any book after its acceptance by the library.

Gering Public Library gladly accepts donations of books in good condition. Often these books will go into the Friends Book Sale.  The proceeds of the sale are used for library programs and other services.

The library does not accept donations of

  • encyclopedias
  • text books
  • Readers Digest Condensed Books
  • paperbacks with the front cover missing
  • anything with water or mold damage

Magazines may be left in the lobby.

The Gering Public Library is a member of the Panhandle Library Consortium.  Your library card will work at twelve other public libraries in the panhandle area. The public libraries include
